Elect a Mayor and Council that puts Milltown First

We will:

Address the electric utility crisis in Milltown

Work with the Borough’s emergency management officials to implement additional improvements to action plans and communications

Obtain all potential FEMA funds and insurance reimbursements

Seek out grants to offset costs

Ensure NO tax abatements are given to future developers

Improve our infrastructure
Remain committed to fiscal responsibility

Develop a water management program to minimize future flooding

Seek out shared services and other cost cutting measures

We Pledge

We pledge to the residents of Milltown:
 
Continue to work to determine the best solution for future of the electric utility
o    Work with bipartisan committee to determine facts about best solution for the electric utility
o    Make sure complete analysis is done to  understand what the best options are for Milltown
o    Ensure that no matter if the utility is sold or kept in Milltown that the substation is moved.
 
Continue to work with the boroughs emergency management officials to implement additional improvements to actions plans and communications
o    Implementation of scheduled OEM meetings
o    Enhanced emergency response team
o    Establish reliable shelters on both sides of towns with generator power
o    Improved communication mechanisms

Continue efforts to obtain all potential FEMA funds and insurance reimbursements

Continue efforts to seek out grants to offset costs


Ensure no tax abatements are given to future developers
o    Previously democrats provided tax abate for East Mill Shopping Center – costing the borough $13M in taxes (including the schools)
o    Make sure this does not happen at Ford Avenue

Continue to improve our infrastructure
o    Borough Garage
o    Municipal Building
o    Firehouse
o    Utilities
o    Public Works equipment & vehicles
o    Capital Projects planning so we are not forced into radical expenditures and band-aid fixes.
 
Continued fiscal responsibility
 
Develop water management program to minimize future flooding

o    Work with surrounding communities along water to devise long-term plan to minimize water level increases in Milltown
o    Work to get flood gates at dam operating again
o    Look into potential dredging of pond

Your Republican Council Working for the Residents
 
This year, your REPUBLICAN borough council adopted a municipal budget with NO PROPERTY TAX INCREASE
o    While still drastically reducing the electric surplus, allowing investment back into the utility
 
Eliminated wasteful spending – with no cuts to services
o    Eliminating inefficient sewer pump with gravity feed lined – savings $90,000 annually
o    Bid-out recycling contract – savings $70,000 annually
o    Trained Milltown dispatchers to be 911 certified – savings $20,000 annually
o    Reduced operating appropriations – savings $200,000 annually
 
Ensured Milltown received all possible money from FEMA and Insurance after 2007 flooding
o    Ron Dixon worked with FEMA so that we received all outstanding funding due to Milltown after 2007 flood and filed claims with insurance
o    Total funds received $150,0000
 
Improvements to Senior Center and grounds with grant money
o    Received close to $200,000 for improvements to senior center building and parking lot.  As well as to off-set costs to run office of aging office
 
Working together with the school, we were able to eliminate flooding on Cottage – at no cost to residents
o    Worked hand and hand with the school to reroute draining, which alleviated long standing flooding.
 
Significantly reduced recycling costs with no changed in service
o    Bid-out recycling contract and reduced costs by $90,000 per year
o    No change in service
 
Annual road improvements
o    Paved and milled – Washington Ave., Riva Ave., Chestnut
o    Continuing Brook Drive improvements
 
Efforts to aid our emergency services
o    Trained dispatchers to be 911 certified
o    Eliminated electric costs to Rescue Squad
o    Prepared for future construction of firehouse
o    Continued leasing program for replacement of police vehicles
o    Hired new police offices
 
Expanded shared services – saving money
o    Animal Control
o    North Brunswick garage
 
Sought out and received grants – saving tax payers
o    Brook Drive – phase 3
o    HUD Money for Seniors
o    FEMA
 
Continued upgrades to our utilities
o    Assessment of viable relocation of properties for possible substation relocation
o    Main Street water lining project
o    Expanded water lining project to Foch Ave and West Lawrence
 
Set aside money for electric upgrade and maintenance
o    Completed maintenance on electric utility previously neglected for 14 years
o    Created reserves account for capital needs
o    Created reserves account to began allocation of funds to substations upgrades/relocation
o    Started tree trimming program
